Canals in Venice are running clear amid the Covid-19 lockdown

Amid all ongoing chaos of the Covid-19 pandemic, there has been a positive story coming out of Venice, Italy.

With Italy currently under a nation-wide lockdown (to slow the spread of Covid-19), there has been a reduced of number people/boaters using the canals of Venice, and some major changes have been happening.

Residents of Venice have noticed that nature seems to be taking back its canals, with the water now strikingly crystal clear.

According to CNN, a spokesperson for the Venice mayor’s office said that the change in appearance doesn’t have to do with improved water quality or a lack of pollution.

Instead, “the water now looks clearer because there is less traffic on the canals, allowing the sediment to stay at the bottom.”

The beautiful photographs are being recorded on social media including in a Facebook Group VENEZIA PULITA.
