Motorists are again being urged to be patient following a close call with a Highway Patrol vehicle.
Around 4pm on October 2, an officer was heading north on Goodwood Road when an Isuzu MU-X travelling the opposite direction overtook a truck.
The vehicle narrowly missed the police car which partially left the roadway to avoid a collision.
A North Ipswich man was issued with a traffic infringement notice for overtaking when not safe to do so worth $225 and two demerit points.
Bodycam captured what the officer said to the main when he pulled him over.
“I don’t want to die today,” he said.
The man then said he was travelling within the dotted lines while the officer argued the 75-year-old should have merged when he saw oncoming traffic.
“We have far too many crashes from people overtaking,” the officer continued.
“I went to a crash the other day not 300 metres up from here.”
Acting Sergeant Gordon Hard said this incident is not uncommon.
“Unfortunately, we regularly see this type of behaviour and often this leads to crashes with oncoming traffic,” he said.
“I urge people to be patient and wait for a safe time to overtake the vehicle in front of you.
“You can only overtake another vehicle if you have a clear view of any approaching traffic, it is safe to do so, and all road markings and signs allow you to overtake.
“It’s more important to get home safely, then it is to get home quickly.”
