Enforcement Blitz to Butt out Smoking

The Wide Bay Public Health Unit is cracking down on smokers. They're kicking off an enforcement blitz, using on the spot fines to butt out smoking in our region. They're undertaking an eight-week smoking compliance program and in one week already issued seven infringement notices. Dr Margaret Young says the focus is on “hotspot” areas at transport waiting points such as taxi ranks and bus stops, building entrances, and within the 5m boundary of their hospitals.
