BREAKING | Tornado Warning Issued For Wide Bay

A Severe Thunderstorm Warning for DESTRUCTIVE WINDS, LARGE HAILSTONES and TORNADOES is current. 

For people in Wide Bay and Burnett, Darling Downs and Granite Belt and parts of Central Highlands and Coalfields, Capricornia, Maranoa and Warrego and Southeast Coast Forecast Districts.

TORNADO WARNING FOR TIARO, MARYBOROUGH AND HERVEY BAY

Weather Situation: A very dangerous thunderstorm with an observed tornado at Tansey (NE of Murgon) is expected to continue its northeast track.
A recently developed thunderstorm, north of Miles is expected to intensify futher and produce similar conditions as it tracks northeast over the next few hours.
Severe thunderstorms are developing across the southern Darling Downs. Forecast to develop and extend north during the afternoon. History of hail near Goondiwindi.

Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce destructive winds, large hailstones and tornadoes over the next several hours in the Wide Bay and Burnett, Darling Downs and Granite Belt and parts of the Central Highlands and Coalfields, Capricornia, Maranoa and Warrego and Southeast Coast districts. Locations which may be affected include Dalby, Gympie, Bundaberg, Goondiwindi, Kingaroy, Hervey Bay, Cherbourg and Tara.

Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce destructive winds and large hailstones over the next several hours in parts of the Central Highlands and Coalfields, Wide Bay and Burnett and Darling Downs and Granite Belt districts. Locations which may be affected include Hervey Bay, Cherbourg, Gayndah, Maryborough, Mundubbera, Gin Gin and Tiaro.

- Tennis ball size hail (up to 7cm) was reported at Kumbia around midday.

- 4 to 5cm hail reported between Proston and Murgon

- 3 to 5cm hail reported at and near Gympie

- 4 to 5cm hail reported at Yelarbon

- Vast property and vegetation damage across all affected towns

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services advises that people should:
* Move your car under cover or away from trees.
* Secure loose outdoor items.
* Seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees.
* Avoid using the telephone during a thunderstorm.
* Beware of fallen trees and powerlines.
* For emergency assistance contact the SES on 132 500.

 The next warning is due to be issued by 6:35 pm.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services has issued an Emergency Alert to residents in the Fraser Coast Regional Council area advising that a Very Dangerous Storm is moving from Kilkivan towards the Maryborough, Hervey Bay and Tiaro area.

This storm is very dangerous and will likely have very destructive winds and large hail stones. Tornados are also possible.

Those in the area should seek shelter in a solid structure and not go outside. Residents are also being advised to not drive on the road.
