There has been an alarming spike in drink drivers in Bundaberg, with figures at their second highest in 20 years.
It comes after Bundaberg Police nabbed 73 drivers over the legal alcohol limit in August according to the latest crime statistics, almost breaking the region's monthly record of 76 from 2016.
Officer in Charge of Bundaberg Road Policing Unit Sergeant Marty Arnold said officers have been out in force during COVID.
"We've ramped up our RBT efforts and that's also a reason that we're getting more detections lately," Mr Arnold said.
"Coming off the back of the COVID restrictions where we were downplaying a lot of RBT deployments, we've certainly picked up the pace in relation to testing."
