A man and a woman have died following a fatal traffic crash on the Bruce Highway, south of Maryborough yesterday afternoon.

Police and emergency services were called to the scene approximately 6 kilometres north of Tiaro at 3:15pm following reports of a multi-vehicle crash involving three vehicles.

Preliminary investigations indicate a car was travelling northbound when it hit a second vehicle travelling southbound before collided head-on with a third vehicle which was also travelling southbound.

A man and woman were pronounced deceased at the scene.

A teenage boy was airlifted to Royal Brisbane Hospital in a critical condition, and two men and a woman were all transported to hospital in a serious condition.

The Bruce Highway was closed in both directions and reopened at 8:40pm.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.
