Fake Melbourne car washer nicks vehicle

A woman thought she'd won a free car wash before having her vehicle nicked by a fraudster in Melbourne.

The man went to the woman's Brighton home posing as a car washer on Friday before taking the keys and stealing the black Holden Commodore sedan, police said.

The victim had earlier sold the car online and received an email purportedly from the same website, saying she had won a free car wash.

The thief is described as European in appearance, 177cm tall, with a medium build and black hair, and wearing a blue shift, yellow hi-vis top and baseball cap.

Anyone with information about the theft of the car, registered 1MX4CM, is asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
