British pop-star Rita Ora has arrived in Sydney on Monday, entering her two-week mandatory hotel quarantine at Meriton Suites in Pitt Street.

The 30-year-old singer has been allowed to enter the country to film the newest season of The Voice Australia, a move in which the Australian Federal Government has been criticised for.

Currently, there are 40,000 Australian’s overseas waiting to come back home. In an interview with the Guardian, opposition home affairs spokesperson Kristina Keneally said, “It’s another example of Scott Morrison leaving Australians behind... Every celebrity who takes up a place in quarantine is a place denied to a stranded Australian,” she said.

The penthouse suite at the Pitt Street Suites could reportedly cost her around $7K for the full 14 days in quarantine.

The 'Let You Love Me’ singer recently faced backlash for breaching coronavirus restrictions, hosting her birthday party at a London restaurant. On November 21, Ora flew from Egypt back home to England which meant she had to self-isolate for 14 days according to government rules. On November 28, Ora hosted her own birthday party with a group of around 20 in London and was fined £10,000 after photos and news of the party emerged. She said in a statement:

“I recently flew to Egypt to perform at a corporate event for a private company, where my travel party followed protocol and presented negative Covid tests upon entry, as required by Egyptian authorities.

“Upon my return to Britain, I should have followed government advice and isolated myself for the required period. As you know, I didn’t follow government advice and … I apologise again, unreservedly.

“While I realise the apologetic words of a pop star might not carry much weight, especially one who has broken the rules like I have, I do realise some might seek to follow my example.

“My message to them is simple: please don’t. The guilt and shame I’ve carried this week for my mistake aren’t worth it. Instead, continue to listen to the government advice and the voices of the heroes of the NHS and take the required precautions.”

Most recently, the UK singer was on the panel on the UK version of The Masked Singer but her latest gig on the screen will be on The Voice Australia. She'll join Keith Urban, Jessica Mauboy, and Guy Sebastian on the coaches panel on the Seven Network. Produced by ITV Studios Australia, the newest season will be hosted by Sonia Kruger.

David Mott, CEO and Managing Director of the studio said it is “the beginning of a new era of The Voice in Australia” after Seven secured the rights from Channel Nine.

“Seven did not hesitate in securing the rights when this opportunity came up and we cannot wait to get cracking on the series for 2021 and to welcome Sonia back to the biggest entertainment stage on Australian television.”
