Bundaberg’s two main bridges could reopen later today, if it’s safe to do so.
The water levels need to drop below 7 metres in order to reopen the bridges, after flooding along the Burnett River peaked around 7.4 metres on Wednesday morning.
Mayor Helen Blackburn says they’re monitoring the water levels closely, but will also need to assess the roads on either side of the bridges to make sure they’re safe for vehicles.
“We don’t want to open the bridges prematurely and then have people get into trouble with driving through floodwaters,” she said.
