Bargara by Night – 12hr Backyard Ultra 2026
Get ready to run under the glow of a full moon at the Bargara by Night Backyard Ultra. This unique endurance event challenges runners to complete 6.7km loops, starting on the hour, every hour, for up to 18 hours. Despite the name, participants can choose between 6, 12, or 18-hour race options.
Event Details
The event takes place on Saturday, 29 August, starting at 12:00pm (noon) at Neilsons Beach Park. Runners begin with six daylight loops along scenic coastal trails before taking on the added challenge of running through the night.
Night Running
Headlamps are required for all night participants, and runners competing in the 12 and 18-hour events must be aged 18 or over. Those continuing into the evening will experience the full-moon challenge along the 6.7km course.
The Midnight Grind
For 18-hour competitors, the final stage begins after 80km, with an additional 40.2km to complete. If more than one male or female runner remains at the end, the winner is determined by the fastest overall time.

Registration, Pack Pickup & Gazebos
Pack pickup will take place at the registration tent in Neilsons Park on Saturday, 29 August, from 10:00am to 11:30am. Gazebo spaces will be assigned at registration, and no ground pegs are permitted due to underground irrigation; any damage incurred will be the responsibility of the participant. Gazebos must be removed by 7:00am on Sunday, 30 August.
Online registrations close at 9:00pm on Thursday, 27 August. After this time, entries will be available on the day at an additional cost.
Age Requirements
Participants must be aged 14 and over for the 6-hour race, and 18 and over for the 12 and 18-hour events.
Event Participation
All runners will receive an event cap and name badge, which must be displayed during the race to indicate active participation. Official laps will be tracked by event marshals and timing systems.
Race Options & Pricing
Participants can choose from three race durations: 6 hours, 12 hours, or 18 hours. Completing at least one lap earns a finisher’s medal.
