A local ranger has won a global award for her turtle conservation efforts in the Bundaberg region.
Bundaberg-born Ranger-in-Charge at Mon Repos Conservation, Cathy Gatley, has won the 2025 DarkSky Wildlife Night Watch Award.
She has being recognised for founding the Cut the Glow to Help Turtles Go campaign in 2009 which helped uniting councils, businesses and schools to reduce artificial light and protect endangered loggerhead turtles.

She has also been involved in many other community programs, including the Junior Turtle Rangers, media outreach, and public engagement initiatives.
