Mr Batt paid tribute to his family in his speech.

“Without the love and support of Sharyn, Taleigha and Maddy, I wouldn’t be standing here today,” Mr Batt said.

He became emotional when he mentioned his mother and father, pausing at times.

“I had the honour of writing my very first congratulatory message as the Member for Hinkler back on the 12th of June to my mum and dad to celebrate and honour their 60th Wedding Anniversary,” Mr Batt said.

Mr Batt also reinforced his commitment to his community as an elected member of parliament.

“I will serve the people of Hinkler with honesty, integrity and compassion for as long as they will have me represent them in this House,” Mr Batt said.

“I’ll always fight to ensure Hinkler receives its fair share.”
