A large firefighting air tanker has arrived at Bundaberg Airport in preparation for the upcoming bushfire season.

It’s part of a $12.7 million State Government investment into strengthening aerial firefighting capabilities.

Fire Minister Ann Leahy, along with the Queensland Fire Department Commissioner Steve Smith and the Member for Burnett Stephen Bennett, toured the aircraft yesterday afternoon.

Ms Leahy said the investment is a game-changer for the fire department.

“We can expect to see increased bushfire activity from now until the end of the year, which is why we are delivering a stronger aerial firefighting fleet,” she said.

“This support will help our crews respond faster and more effectively to bushfires.”

While Mr Smith said his team will be monitoring any fire risk closely.

“Our aerial assets are critical in mapping out fires, guiding crews on the ground, and assisting in firefighting efforts with their aerial waterbombing capabilities,” he said.
