A man in his 70s is lucky to be alive after spending a night trapped in his car, when it fell about 60 metres down a gully.
It’s believed the driver left the road at Colosseum, south of Miriam Vale, on Thursday before road workers raised the alarm around 9.00am on Friday.
It took emergency services about three hours to free him, before he was transported by road to the RACQ CapRescue helicopter.
He was airlifted to Bundaberg Hospital for further treatment with serious head, neck and abdominal injuries.
Queensland Police, Queensland Ambulance and Queensland Fire and Rescue personnel were all on-site assisting the man.
Acting senior operations supervisor Greg Christensen says it was a mass response.
“We had a lot of difficulty initially accessing the patient, we had to get a few paramedics taken down the ravine by rope.
“Then we had the issue of not having all of our equipment available at the bottom.
“We had approximately 10 firefighters on scene, technical rescue specialists who set up vertical ropes to get our paramedics down to the patient and then obviously the patient back up to the ambulance.”
