The Member for Bundaberg is calling on the State Government to include funding for critical safety upgrades on the Isis Highway.
It’ll cover a stretch of the road between the Bruce Highway and the Airport.
Tom Smith said the project must continue to be funded.
“Bundaberg is a big community and we need commuters on our roads to have no expense spared when it comes to road safety,” Mr Smith said.
Mr Smith also describing what he calls concerns from whistleblowers.
“For whistleblowers within Council to be telling the Opposition that TMR are short on the necessary funds to complete the works, our Government started, is concerning for every motorist that uses this important stretch of road from Bundy to Childers,” he said.
In response, Transport Minister Brent Mickelberg said Labor should’ve fixed the issues highlighted on the Isis Highway when they were in power.
“I always find it interesting when you see Labor politicking on issues that they could’ve solved for the last ten years,” Mr Mickelberg said.
“Let’s be very clear, Labor had ten years to invest in the Isis Highway.”
The State Budget will be handed in parliament this afternoon.
