The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) says it’s reached a significant milestone on the Monto-Mount Perry Road project, with the bridge deck units on the new Splinter Creek Bridge put in place.
Construction on the final 5.1km section of the project between the Burnett Highway and the Burnett River started in May 2024 and includes replacing Splinter Creek Bridge on a new and safer alignment.
The new bridge is considerably higher than the old timber bridge, making it more resilient to flood events.
The road is being sealed to improve road safety and reduce future maintenance requirements.
Construction is expected to be complete by mid-2025, weather and other conditions permitting.
Monto–Mount Perry Road is currently closed to through traffic between the Burnett Highway and the Burnett River to enable works to be completed as safely and efficiently as possible.
Access is being maintained for authorised vehicles only, including residents, under controlled conditions. A temporary detour is in place for motorists via Kerwee Road (a local road).
Motorists can expect delays and are reminded to observe all warning and traffic control signs when approaching the work sites and to be aware of changed conditions.
