House Fire at Kensington

August 18, 2026 10:17 am in by

A fire has broken out at a property in Bundaberg’s western suburbs this morning, but no injuries have been reported.

Five crews attended the blaze on Von Deest Street, Kensington, after being called out at around 7:30am and remained on site for a number of hours.

It’s believed the blaze began as a shed and rubbish fire, with the structure’s inhabitants successfully evacuating, before the embers spread to a nearby house.

A smoke alert was in place for the area this morning, with members of the public reporting seeing the haze.

The Queensland Fire Department and Queensland Police Service have been contacted for comment, though no official statement had been released as of the time of writing.

It’s after house fire claims data released recently revealed Bundaberg had seven times more fire claims than other towns in the state.

Mechanical or electrical faults remain the leading cause of claims, with kitchen appliances and candles next in line.

As e-mobility devices grow in popularity, Queenslanders are also being urged to follow manufacturer charging instructions to avoid a potential fire hazard.

Authorities say overcharging or faulty lithium-ion batteries can also spark fires, which is why they’re urging people never to leave devices unattended.
