Police have closed a ten-month policing operation targeting the supply of methylamphetamines to the communities of Cherbourg and Murgon.
Operation Rumpel was launched in January this year by Murgon detectives who utilised information from the public, investigative strategies, and other tactical actions across the South Burnett arresting 30 people on 241 drug offences.
The operation culminated with the arrest of a 51-year-old woman and a 37-year-old man in Murgon on October 18.
It is alleged between January 9 and October 11 this year the man and the woman supplied and trafficked methylamphetamines at Murgon.
They have been charged with 198 offences including 192 counts of supplying dangerous drugs, one count each of trafficking dangerous drugs, one count each of receiving property obtained from trafficking or supplying dangerous drugs, and one count each for possessing property used in the commission of a drug offence.
Both were remanded in police custody to appear at the Murgon Magistrates Court on October 19.
Detective Sergeant Martin Hunter from Murgon detectives thanked the community for the information they provided throughout the course of the investigation.
“This operation demonstrated the collaboration of the community and police to deter, detect and disrupt the supply chain for methamphetamine in the area. Regional detectives worked with specialist police units acting on good information supplied by the community which culminated in these arrests,” he said.
“Operation Rumpel has put a significant dent in the drug trade in the area which has led to a safer community for both Murgon and Cherbourg.”
