The other driver allegedly fled, but police arrested a 36-year-old Bundaberg West man a short time later.

He was taken to Bundaberg Hospital with minor injuries, and later charged with six offences including dangerous operation of a vehicle causing death or grievous bodily harm whilst adversely affected by an intoxicating substance, as well as fail to supply the necessaries, evasion offence, driving of motor vehicle without a driver licence, driver uninsured vehicle, and driving unregistered vehicle.

Investigators are calling for any witnesses, particularly anyone with relevant vision of the Mazda prior to the crash, to contact police.
