Social housing development opens for Bundaberg families

Families in need have now been given the keys to safe and secure homes in Bundaberg.

A new social housing development comprising of 16 units has officially opened in Kalkie, providing stability for people experiencing, or at risk of, homelessness.

The project has been delivered by community housing provider, Regional Housing, with funding from the state government.

Regional Housing’s Chief Operations Officer Hannah Scott says the development represents more than just new buildings, it represents fresh starts for local families.

“These homes will be truly life-changing for families who are doing it tough. This is about security and finally having a place where they can feel safe and begin to move forward.

“We are proud to work alongside the Queensland Government and our community partners to deliver housing that has the power to change the course of a person’s life and restore dignity, hope and a sense of belonging.

“Every set of keys we hand over represents a new beginning – a stable foundation for children to grow, families to heal, and people to plan for the future with confidence.”

Ms Scott says the Kalkie project reflects Regional Housing’s growing role in tackling housing demand across regional Queensland.

Member for Burnett MP Stephen Bennett says community Housing Providers play a vital role in delivering practical solutions.

“The Crisafulli Government is proud to partner with providers like Regional Housing who are on the ground making a real difference for local families every day.

“These 16 units will provide stability and security for residents, including seniors, young people and those living with disability.

“It’s about ensuring vulnerable Queenslanders have a roof over their head and a safe place to call home.”
